Our Cornish Cross broilers are raised on pasture with daily moves to fresh ground, continuous access to sunlight, fresh air, and forage, and a high-quality non-GMO feed ration. Birds are available to reserve from two pickup day options, on June 30 and July 21, and quantities are limited.
Instead of buying after harvest, you commit ahead of time and secure birds to support the time and energy it takes to raise high-quality pasture-raised chicken.
You will receive a reminder email prior to arrange local pickup.

Raise your food with us this season
This Chicken CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a seasonal program that allows you to reserve pasture-raised non-gmo fed meat birds while they are being raised. Instead of buying chicken meat after it’s produced, you commit ahead of time and share in the process of growing it.
How Our Birds Are Raised
We raise Cornish Cross broilers sourced from a hatchery known for resilient genetic for using pasture-based systems aligned with the principles of the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA). This system produces healthier birds, improves soil fertility, and results in high-quality meat.
- Chicks begin in a carefully managed brooder for early development
- Once ready, they are moved onto pasture in portable pens
- Birds are moved to fresh ground daily
- They receive continuous access to grass, sunlight, and fresh air
- They are fed a high-quality non-GMO feed ration
- The chickens we raise are able to forage and express natural behaviors
How Our Chicken CSA Works
- Select how many birds you want from each processing batch
- Choose to either:
- We raise your birds on pasture throughout the season
- Birds are processed in two batches this year:
- ~June 30
- ~July 21
- Remaining balances (if applicable) are due prior to or at pickup
You will receive reminders and pickup details ahead of your scheduled batch.
Important Information
By placing this order, you are purchasing ownership of live poultry prior to slaughter.
Processing is coordinated through a custom-exempt facility. All birds are returned to the owner and are labeled NOT FOR SALE.
Different foods are regulated differently in Minnesota:
- Meat and poultry must be processed under inspection or custom-exempt systems
- Cottage food products (baked goods, jams, etc.) must be non-potentially hazardous and sold direct to consumers
- Meat products are not eligible under cottage food law and require proper processing pathways ()
This CSA is structured to comply with Minnesota law while maintaining a direct relationship between farmer and customer.

- Produce food at a local level
- Build relationships between people, their food, and the land
As The Forage Farmstead grows, this CSA model will expand to include additional farm products, all built on the same principles.
